NIELSVILLE, Minn. — Polk County authorities were investigating a death Thursday, Aug. 22, after a body was found by a bridge just west of Nielsville, a town near the Red River about 20 miles southwest of Crookston.
Deputies responded to the scene just after 1 p.m. and discovered a dead male in the area of the bridge, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
A WDAY reporter saw a coroner's van and several detectives on the scene. Witnesses said they saw a body in the westbound lane of the road on the Minnesota side of the bridge and that a car was towed away from the area.
The sheriff's office said in a release that no criminal activity is suspected and that it doesn't believe there was any risk to the public.
