WEST FARGO — Arthur W. Jones VFW Post 7564 in West Fargo is assisting the Fargo VA Medical Center with its homeless outreach program.
The Fargo VA has nine social workers handling homeless programs for veterans. Their mission is to find homeless and low-income veterans and help with their medical care and disability benefits.
The group is working with apartment landlords and helping manage veteran VA benefits to ensure rent is paid; now the veterans are in need of apartment furniture and furnishings.
Post 7564 has been collecting used furniture in good condition and has been buying beds, bedding and other apartment needs to help.
The Marine Corps League has been volunteering to deliver the items and set up new homes. Since January, the VFW has helped 37 veterans and five dependents and donated over $18,000 from a grant from the Impact Foundation.
The VFW is accepting donations of furniture and bedroom sets in good condition. To help, contact Steve Perreault, VFW Post Homeward Vet chairman, 701-306-4634 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
