EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. — Police are warning drivers to stay off the Greenway of Greater Grand Forks after a vehicle driving on it caused possible damage to the levee system.

The Greenway's supervisor posted video on social media Thursday showing tire tracks running through the grass and up and over the levee in the Red Lake River area.

WDAY News obtained video of a pair of pickup trucks driving through the green space. Police say driving on the levee could cause big problems for the system.

"That can potentially weaken the dike," said East Grand Forks Police Chief Mike Hedlund. "If we had a major flood that damage then can multiply in a major flooding event and you could conceivably have one of our levees fail."

If you see someone driving on the Greenway you're asked to call police.
