CHAFFEE, N.D. — An alert has been lifted after deputies responded to a report of a person experiencing a mental health crisis in rural Cass County Thursday night, Jan. 16.
Around 4:30 p.m. authorities received a report from a person concerned about a suicidal teen who had a gun, according to Sheriff Jesse Jahner.
Authorities found the teen's vehicle stuck in the snow on a rural road near Chaffee. The teen would not exit the vehicle but eventually came out and communicated with officers around 7:30 p.m.
The sheriff's office described the situation as a "volatile" one and urged people to stay away from the scene. A codeRED alert was issued in Cass County to warn people of the situation.
No shots were fired in the incident. Jahner said the teen will get help with mental health.
Chaffee is an unincorporated community 25 miles west of Fargo.
