FARGO — Emergency crews responded to a report of a person experiencing mental health crisis who had threatened to walk onto the frozen Red River and break through the ice late Thursday night, Feb. 27.

The call came in around 11:30 p.m., and the search centered around the First Avenue North bridge, according to dispatch logs. Emergency responders did not see footprints on the ice and later found the person on a nearby bike path, according to Fargo police Sgt. Sam Bollman.

The call had initially been reported as a water rescue. Crews from Fargo and Moorhead responded to the scene.

Two police cars and an ambulance were still on scene before midnight.
