WAHPETON, N.D. — The North Dakota Department of Transportation has temporarily closed the driver's license office here, and a state health official said the move is a precaution against coronavirus.
Rob Keller with the North Dakota Department of Health’s newly formed Joint Information Center said it does not involve a case of COVID-19; rather, the closure was made because of the office’s proximity to a center for senior citizens.
Elderly people, and those who are immunocompromised, are considered at higher risk for serious complications of COVID-19.
The driver’s license office is at 520 Third Ave. S., inside the Wahpeton Senior Center, where recreational and social activities are offered for Richland County area seniors.
A list of other driver license office locations can be found on the North Dakota Department of Transportation’s website at www.dot.nd.gov.
The department of transportation also reminds motorists that many driver's license services can be done online and that licenses can be mailed to their home.
The Wahpeton Motor Vehicle branch office at 1505 11 St. N. remains open.
