BARNESVILLE, Minn. — The Barnesville City Council has taken action to implement water restrictions in response to a statewide drought.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources this week requested towns and cities across the state restrict outdoor water use because of drought conditions.

In addition, Barnesville's water tower will be out of operation for about four weeks due to maintenance.

Under the city's Stage 3 water restrictions, the following rules are now in place in Barnesville:

  • No lawn watering, except for yards sodded or seeded this year.
  • Trees, shrubs and gardens may be watered using hand-held devices from 6-9 a.m. and from 7-10 p.m., following the odd-even rule, with residences with addresses ending in an even number allowed to water on even numbered days and addresses ending with an odd number allowed to water on odd-numbered days.
  • No filling of swimming pools or washing of vehicles.
  • The hours for the Kava Family Splash Pad will be reduced to 2-5 p.m.
