FARGO — The Great Plains Food Bank is now able to feed thousands of families in the region thanks to one generous donation.
Hornbacher's presented the food bank with a $60,793 check. The money was raised in July 2018 during Hornbacher's "Check out Hunger" campaign. Those funds were presented Wednesday and will be used to make around 182,000 meals for families in need.
Hornbacher's runs the campaign every year, by asking customers to donate at the checkout lanes. Stores in Fargo, West Fargo, Moorhead, and Grand Forks participated in 2018 and set a new record for giving.
"We live in a place that is so generous, and they always making sure that they are taking care of their neighbors," said Matt Leiseth, president of Hornbacher's Foods. "Hornbacher's is proud to support the Great Plains Food Bank and partner in their mission to support people with food insecurities."
The Great Plains Food Bank provided nearly 12 million meals throughout 2017.
