FARGO — Due to the dangerously low temperatures and deteriorating weather conditions, Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney and West Fargo Commission President Bernie Dardis jointly declared an emergency to enact a closure of all non-emergency city offices starting at 6:30 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 29, and continuing through tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 30.

The joint declaration was made to protect residents and city staff members in the community. Snow plowing services will continue and public safety agencies will be in full operation to protect and serve the residents of Fargo and West Fargo.

Fargo

All Fargo Public Library locations close tonight at 6:30 p.m. and remain closed through Wednesday.

MATBUS fixed route and MAT Paratransit services will end tonight at 6:15 p.m. and the Ground Transportation Center (GTC) will close at 6:30 p.m. There will be no MATBUS or MAT Paratransit services on Wednesday.

All Fargo city hall departments will be closed on Wednesday.

There will be no residential trash and recycling collection Wednesday and the Fargo Sanitary Landfill and Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility will both be closed Wednesday. Residents who normally have trash/recycling collected on Wednesday will have those items collected on Thursday. The scheduled Thursday and Friday collections will occur as usual.

Fargo Cass Public Health will be closed on Wednesday. This includes all services, including WIC, clinic services and immunizations.

West Fargo

The closure includes:

  • West Fargo City Hall and the West Fargo Police Department lobby at 800 Fourth Ave. E.
  • West Fargo Public Works at 810 12th Ave. NW.
  • Sanitation Department at 117 Eighth St. W.

  • Transfer Station at 1620 Main Ave. W.

The West Fargo Public Library at 109 Third St. E. will close at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, and will remain closed Jan. 30.

There will be no sanitation services Wednesday, Jan. 30. Weather permitting, garbage originally scheduled for Wednesday collection will instead be collected Thursday, Jan. 31, along with Thursday’s garbage.
