WEST FARGO — The Red River Valley Fairgrounds will once again be home to several days of red, white and boom celebrations as the Pyrotechnics Guild International has confirmed that it will hold its 2020 convention here.

Bryan Schulz, general manager of the Red River Valley Fair Association, said there's a general agreement, though a contract hasn’t been signed yet. Pyrotechnics Guild media coordinator Dan Creagan said he expects the agreement to be firmed up and convention dates set by early May.

Schulz said the convention is a good fit for both sides, with the fairgrounds in West Fargo hosting a number of times, first in 1993 and most recently in 2017.

Creagan said it’s easy to get fired up about bringing the convention back to the Fargo-Moorhead area. “Even though it’s a little bit north, it’s still within the general area where most of the pyrotechnic hobbyists live. They’re in the central United States for the most part. And even with that, we still get great attendance from other countries, too,” he said.

This year’s Pyrotechnics Guild convention will be in mid-August in Gillette, Wyo.
