GRAND FORKS — Five people who were on a fourth-floor balcony that collapsed early Saturday morning were transported to the emergency room at Altru Hospital, according to a news release from the Grand Forks Police Department.
The accident occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday at 3880 Garden View Dr.
A police officer, Altru paramedics and personnel from the Grand Forks Fire Department were at the apartment complex for an unrelated call regarding individuals who were stuck in an elevator when the balcony collapsed, police said.
The individuals in the elevator sustained no injuries and were freed from the stuck elevator without incident.
The five people who fell from the fourth-floor balcony had various degrees of injury, but their conditions were not known as of late Saturday afternoon, police said.
The names of the victims who were transported to the hospital were not released.
WDAY spoke with property management who said that all five individuals are in stable condition.
Property managers said the cause of the collapse is not known at this time.
However, managers said that all balconies will be inspected and city inspectors will be brought in as well.
