WATFORD CITY, N.D. — A 29-year-old Los Alamos, N.M., man was killed when his vehicle collided head-on with a semi-truck Wednesday, July 10, on North Dakota Highway 23 about nine miles east of Watford City.

Authorities were informed the driver of a 2014 Ford Raptor was eastbound and driving recklessly. The unbelted driver was in the westbound lane and struck a westbound 2014 International at the crest of a hill, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said.

The Ford overturned and came to rest on its wheels while the semi ran off the north shoulder and jack-knifed with its trailer. The semi driver, John Farris, 48, of Hooper, Utah, was injured and transported to a Watford City hospital.

Farris was wearing a seat belt, the Highway Patrol said.

Shortly after the crash, an eastbound semi hauling crude crested the hill and was damaged by crash debris on the roadway, the Highway Patrol said.
