ALEXANDRIA, Minn. — A 49-year-old Lowry man drowned near a public access at Lake Burgen just east of Alexandria on Tuesday night, July 23.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Department said the man was found about 50 feet from shore in about 10 feet of water. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

The man's name was withheld pending notification of family.

The sheriff's office had received a 911 call from a distraught caller about 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday that the man had gone under water and had not resurfaced. The county's dive rescue team was called to the scene as well as an ambulance and an air ambulance.

The case remains under investigation. Lowry is southwest of Alexandria.
