2 crashes reported during first day of Minn. snowmobile race
OKLEE, Minn. — Two snowmobile crashes were reported Saturday, Jan. 27, north of here during the first day of a two-day race through two northwestern Minnesota counties.
The Red Lake County Sheriff's Office reported two snowmobile crashes happened between 11 a.m. and noon Saturday. Both occurred within 1 mile of each other on 145th Street Southeast near the intersections of 270th Avenue and 260th Avenue.
Authorities said one of the drivers was taken by ambulance to a hospital. It was unknown Saturday if the driver in the other accident was injured.
No other details, including the conditions of either driver, were reported Saturday.
According to a post on the United States X-Country Snowmobile Racing website, snowmobilers gathered this weekend for the Seven Clans 250 Race. Saturday's I-500 race kicked off at 10 a.m., with sleds running two 65-mile laps that wound through portions of Red Lake and Pennington counties.
