PARKSTON, S.D. – A family from Tyndall, S.D., has been identified as those who died in a two-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in southeast South Dakota on an ice-covered roadway.

Pronounced dead at the scene were Zachary Johnson, 16, the driver; and his two parents, who were passengers, Daniel Johnson, 49, and Tina Johnson, 48.  All three were wearing seatbelts.

Zachary Johnson lost control of his 2006 Chevrolet Impala when he was headed northbound on icy South Dakota Highway 37 four miles south of Parkston about 7 a.m. The vehicle went across the center line and collided with a southbound 2016 Peterbilt semi truck.

Claris Miller, 77, York, Neb.,  was driving the semi truck and wasn’t injured. He was wearing a seatbelt.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
