YANKTON, S.D. – A  21-year-old Sisseton woman has been identified as the person who died Sunday night in a one-vehicle crash six miles north of Yankton.

Lucille Casiano, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital where she was pronounced dead.

She was in a 1998 Ford Explorer northbound on U.S. Highway 81 about 7 p.m.  when the driver, Stephen Lufkins, 23, also of Sisseton, failed to stay in his lane and crossed over the centerline into the southbound lane. Lufkins lost control when he swerved after hitting a southbound vehicle. The Explorer went across the southbound lane and into the west ditch where it rolled.

Casiano and Lufkins were not wearing seatbelts and were thrown from the vehicle.

Lufkins suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to a Yankton hospital. Charges are pending against him.
