MOORHEAD — Emergency crews worked to recover a vehicle that rolled into the Red River near the North Dam Thursday evening, Sept. 19, after police said the driver was distracted by a pet and exited the vehicle without putting it into park.

Both Fargo and Moorhead police and firefighters responded to a call at 5:48 p.m. after a vehicle with no occupants reportedly rolled into the river from the Moorhead side, according to Bert McDonough with the Moorhead Fire Department.

The vehicle could be seen floating down the river before it was completely submerged, officials said.

A boat was launched in an attempt to locate the vehicle but crews with the Moorhead and Fargo fire departments were not able to locate it.
