DICKINSON, N.D. — The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified the victim of a multiple-vehicle crash that killed a man Wednesday, Dec. 4, in Dickinson.

Shawn Flaherty, 64, of New England was struck head-on by a vehicle driven by Sergio Ruiz Ledezma, 58, of Dickinson, on State Avenue about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Highway Patrol. Ledezma had crossed the center line and struck another vehicle before hitting Flaherty's SUV, the patrol said.

Flaherty, a teacher who coached youth basketball and conducted skills clinics in New England, was declared dead at the scene.

Ledezma was taken to a Bismarck hospital for treatment of his injuries. The driver of the other pickup was not hurt.

The Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate.
