VALLEY CITY, N.D. — Federal transportation authorities are investigating after a train derailed outside of Valley City Tuesday night, July 21, the Barnes County Sheriff's Office said.

About 8:30 p.m., a train with the Canadian Pacific Railroad that was hauling non-hazardous materials went off the rails near 117th Avenue in Valley City, according to the sheriff's office.

Emergency responders blocked off County Highway 21 as crews worked to clear the scene.

The cause of the derailment is unknown and nobody was hurt, according to the sheriff's office.
