HUFF, N.D. — The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified the man killed in a New Year's Eve crash on North Dakota Highway 1806.
Alex Azure, a 43-year-old Bismarck man, was walking in the roadway when he was struck and killed at 8:50 p.m. near Huff, a rural community in Morton County 20 miles southeast of Mandan.
The patrol had received several calls reporting that Azure was walking in the roadway two miles south of Huff. While troopers were responding to the scene, a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze driven by 49-year-old Bismarck resident Troy Miller struck and killed Azure.
Azure was pronounced dead at the scene. The North Dakota Highway Patrol determined that Miller, who collided with Azure in the northbound lane, could not have avoided hitting the pedestrian.
The Morton County Sheriff's Office also responded to the scene. The North Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
