GRAFTON, N.D. -- A 38-year-old Drayton, N.D., man has been identified as the person killed in a car accident outside of Grafton on Wednesday, Jan. 13.
Ross Mapel died from his injuries after his Honda Accord struck a snowplow truck from the North Dakota Department of Transportation, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Mapel struck the truck from behind at about 12:30 p.m. The NDDOT vehicle was pulling a plow trailer to pre-treat roads for icy conditions as it traveled southbound on Interstate 29.
According to the report, the plow truck had emergency lights activated. Mapel suffered fatal injuries from the crash and was taken to Unity Hospital. The crash remains under investigation by the patrol.
The snowplow was driven by 44-year-old Kevin Kirkeby of Drayton, who was reportedly uninjured. No charges have been filed in the crash, which occurred about 20 miles southeast of Grafton.
