RIVERDALE, N.D. — Authorities have identified the teenage driver who died Monday, June 7, in a crash on Highway 200 crossing the Garrison Dam.
Brandon Krehlik, 17, of Riverdale, was driving a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix east on the dam crossing at about 4:40 p.m. when he moved into the westbound lane while passing another vehicle, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said.
He lost control of the car and began to spin into the scenic overlook parking area on the crossing, the patrol said.
A westbound 2010 Lincoln MKS sedan driven by Brandon Bartsch, 32, of Coleharbor, tried to avoid the Pontiac but struck its side in the parking area, the patrol said. Both vehicles came to rest in the parking area.
Krehlik was ejected from his vehicle and died at the scene. Bartsch was taken to Sanford Health in Bismarck with injuries. Neither driver was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.
The patrol continues to investigate the crash.
