EAST GRAND FORKS — Three people, including two Grand Forks teens, are still dealing with life-threatening injuries after a head-on crash Thursday, June 17.

According to Minnesota state troopers, Valentin Mendoza, 20, crossed the centerline on Highway 220 just north of town, hitting another car driven by 17-year-old Ethan Carsen, who had 16-year-old Damien Powell in the car with him.

Carsen and Powell were both wearing their seat belts, while Mendoza wasn't.

As of Tuesday, June 22, Carsen can respond to people touching him, but he's still dealing with seizures, according to his mom Brandi Carsen on a GoFundMe page raising money for both Carsen's and Powell's families.

On a separate GoFundMe page, Powell's dad, Travis, posted his son is still "fighting for his life," according to his most recent update.

Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Jesse Grabow said it's unclear if anyone involved in the crash will be facing charges, as they're still investigating.
