Victim in fatal Interstate 90 crash in SD ID’d; four teens injured

HUMBOLDT, S.D. -- A crash after crossing an icy bridge on Interstate 90 west of Sioux Falls near the town of Humboldt last Saturday morning has taken the life of a Fort Pierre woman and left four other teens seriously injured.

The woman was identified Wednesday, Nov. 21, as Jennifer Davis.

Suffering life-threatening injuries was one of the four teen passengers, a 14-year-old boywho was not identified. He was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital, along with the other three.

The other three who had serious injuries were Trevor Hayes, 18, of Pierre, a 15-year-old girl from Fort Pierre and and a 13-year-old boy from Fort Pierre.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol said Davis’ 2005 Chevy Trailblazer was eastbound on Interstate 90 when it hit the ice-covered bridge, ran off the roadway, hit a guardrail and rolled several times.

Four of the five were ejected from the vehicle, said the patrol, with the exception of the 15-year-old girl. None were wearing seatbelts, said the patrol.

The patrol is continuing its investigation.
