ST PAUL -- An 80-year-old man who died Tuesday after an explosion at his St. Paul house weeks earlier served his country as a Marine.
The explosion on Nov. 23 leveled John Lundahl’s house. He was hospitalized at Regions Hospital since the blast and died Tuesday night, Dec. 11.
“He talked the first day for a little bit, but he did not know what happened,” said Jeanie Lundahl, his sister-in-law, on Wednesday. “They told him why he was there, that there was an explosion and his house was gone. He couldn’t remember anything about it.”
Dick Lundahl wrote on a fundraising website Wednesday that his brother had not been responding to treatments for the last week or so “and he peacefully went last night.”
He thanked people for their donations and said they would be going toward John Lundahl’s hospital bills.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation by the St. Paul Fire Department. It also damaged about 20 nearby structures.
