Alcohol, speed believed factors in fatal north Fargo crash

Fargo police have identified the man who died and the woman injured in a car crash in north Fargo Wednesday morning.

FARGO — Police say speed and alcohol played a role in a car crash here Wednesday morning, Aug. 12, that killed one man and sent a woman to the hospital.

The crash happened around 6 a.m. Wednesday on the 1100 block of Fifth Street North in a residential area about two blocks north of Sanford Broadway Medical Center.

George Cantu, 30, of Fargo, was driving west on 11th Avenue North when his vehicle left the road, hit a tree and crashed through a fence before coming to rest in a yard, according to the Fargo Police Department.

Cantu died at the scene, according to police. His passenger, Summer Lone Dog, 30, of Fargo, was brought to the hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police said the crash remains under investigation.
