Annual UND walk to fight suicide goes digital

Out of the Darkness Campus Walk at UND

GRAND FORKS — The second annual Out of the Darkness UND Campus Walk will be online this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 3-mile walk is usually held on the University of North Dakota's campus, but this year, it will be held virtually Sunday, April 19, to keep volunteers and walkers safe.

The walk helps the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention raise awareness and funds for its cause. Participants have the option to wear honor beads, with each color symbolizing the personal connection to lost loved one to help identify others who understand their experiences.

The event in Grand Forks is partnering with local businesses like Pippin Law Firm and the Road House Cafe. To join the virtual walk, visit the event's page on AFSP's website. Registration is free but donations are welcome.

If you or someone you know needs help you can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or contact the Crisis Text Line by texting TALK to 741741.
