BEMIDJI, Minn. - A Code Red Alert was issued Friday morning and the Bemidji Police Department is asking for help from the public in locating 25-year-old Keanu Joseph Major, who has escaped from custody.
Major escaped from custody after he was transferred to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center, following a fight between two inmates Thursday night, July 28.
Bemidji police were told Major had escaped from the custody of a corrections officer at about 3:36 a.m. Friday. Law enforcement searched the area near Sanford but could not find Major.
Police believe Major then stole a tan 2004 Chevrolet Silverado with the Minnesota license plate 668KKY from North Country Insulation in Bardwell Park.
He was last seen in the northwest part of Bemidji in leg shackles and a waist belt with restraints and an orange jumpsuit, according to a release posted to the Bemidji Police Department's Facebook page.

He is scheduled to appear in court Monday, Aug. 7.
