MOORHEAD — Police have identified the man suspected of robbing a Moorhead bank Wednesday, May 1.

Robert Vaughn Evans, 51, is wanted by police after allegedly handing a note to a worker at Gate City Bank in the south Moorhead Hornbachers grocery store, 950 40th Ave. S., saying he had a weapon and wanted money. The robber never showed a weapon but implied he had one by reaching for his waistband, police said. Bank staff gave the robber an undisclosed amount of money.

Local law enforcement officials were able to identify the suspect as Evans with high quality surveillance video and help from the U.S. Marshals Service, the Moorhead Police Department announced in a news release.

Evans doesn't have a local address and has outstanding warrants out of West Virginia, according to the release.

Police said Evans isn't believed to have remained in the Fargo-Moorhead area after the robbery. He was last seen driving a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe with Iowa license plates DNL661.
