FARGO — A Minnesota man was sentenced on Thursday, May 9, at Cass County District Court on charges stemming from an arrest in March after authorities apprehended him for shoplifting.
At a hearing Thursday, Shayne Elliot Gill, 27, Monticello, Minn., pleaded guilty to two felony counts related to theft and three misdemeanor counts related to theft and possession of controlled substances.
Gill was sentenced to 39 days in jail, which he has already served, and he was placed on two years of supervised probation. He will also be required to pay about $4,000 in restitution and fees.
Authorities arrested Gill on March 20 in connection with a shoplifting incident at Menards, 1300 13th Ave. E., court documents show.
Police responded to the store and saw a man, later identified as Gill, run out the back of the store. Gill was arrested four blocks away.
Police spoke to a woman who was in a truck outside the store and learned the truck had been stolen out of Wright County, Minn.
The woman was arrested at the time on suspicion of giving a false name to law enforcement, but no charges have been filed against her.
