FARGO — Authorities here have accused a 29-year-old man of stealing a woman’s car and striking her with it as he drove off.
Jared James Shepherd, Fargo, faces felony charges of robbery, reckless endangerment and theft, according to documents filed in Cass County District Court.
On May 7, A Fargo police officer responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at a gas station in the 2100 block of University Drive South, court papers show.
A woman told police she stopped at the gas station and left her vehicle running while she went inside to get coffee, court papers show.
The woman said she discovered a man, later identified as Shepherd, sitting in the driver’s seat of her vehicle, court papers show.
Surveillance video showed Shepherd getting into the vehicle before striking the victim with the vehicle, court papers show.
Shepherd is then seen in the video backing up the vehicle for several feet with the victim still on the hood before she falls off and he drives away, according to court papers.
The vehicle was later located in Dilworth and authorities apprehended Shepherd, court papers show.
