FARGO — The Fargo Police Department addressed rumors about a possible child abduction in Fargo on Monday, June 10.

Police said around 11 a.m., a complainant reported being in a parking lot and turning away momentarily to open a car door. The person noticed a man running toward their child who was sitting in a shopping cart and reported it looked like he was reaching out to grab the child.

The man told police he saw the child unbuckled in the cart and was worried the child was about to fall out; he said as a concerned father, he was trying to help, police stated.

After police told the complainant what the male said, the complainant agreed that might be accurate.

Police say that after reviewing surveillance video, they saw the child standing up in the cart and the man run over to the child but no contact happened between the man and child.
