HAWLEY, Minn. — A Moorhead man is in jail after his girlfriend told police he assaulted her and smashed the windows of her vehicle Wednesday, June 12 in Hawley.

Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence at around 11:40 a.m., according to a Facebook post from the Hawley police department. A 33-year-old woman said she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, who fled on foot after she called 911, police said.

Police took 32-year-old Cody Lee Littleghost into custody shortly after Hawley police say the suspect was spotted by an off-duty Clay County deputy near a Dollar General store at 1:10 p.m.

Littleghost was arrested on suspicion of domestic assault, burglary and damage to private property, according to Clay County jail records.

The Hawley Police Department said it will file reports with the Clay County Attorney's Office for formal charges to be filed.
