RED WING, Minn. — Authorities on Wednesday arrested a 19-year-old suspect wanted in connection in the shooting of a Red Wing man Tuesday evening, June 25 in what investigators described as a "very unusual" incident.
The man was shot in daylight on a busy city street just three blocks from the Goodhue County Justice Center.
The man taken into custody Wednesday in Woodbury was identified by Red Wing police as Michael Reyes of Red Wing. The shooting victim was identified by police as D’andre Shawn Hicks, 28, of Tampa, Fla. His condition was not known as of Wednesday afternoon, according to a Red Wing Police Department news release.
Woodbury police were alerted that the unidentified suspect was possibly at the Key Inn on Wooddale Drive in Woodbury, according to a Woodbury Public Safety news release. Authorities determined the suspect was inside a hotel room. Because the suspect was considered violent, Washington County SWAT evacuated adjacent rooms and eventually took the suspect into custody.
A semi-automatic pistol was recovered at the scene. Red Wing Police Sgt. David Addleman said police didn’t believe the shooting was random.
The victim was later airlifted to Mayo Clinic Hospital–Saint Marys in Rochester.
