FRAZEE, Minn. — A man was shot and a deputy was injured in a confrontation near here the night of Saturday, July 20, according to the Becker County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 10 p.m., law enforcement responded to a 911 call for a welfare check on a possibly suicidal man at a home on County Highway 29 just north of Frazee.
During a conversation between the man and Becker County 911 personnel, officers learned the man was threatening to injure himself.
The man may have attempted a drug overdose, the Becker County Sheriff's Office said in a media release. He would not cooperate with officers’ commands to exit the home. After about 45 minutes, law enforcement entered the home.
Officers fired tasers and a gun, injuring the man. A source exclusive to WDAY said the man was likely holding a knife when authorities entered the home.
After being shot, the man was taken to Essentia Health in Fargo for treatment. One deputy was injured during the incident; he was treated at Essentia Health in Detroit Lakes and released.
The Becker County Sheriff's Office has asked the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to investigate. The BCA will determine if body cameras or squad cameras captured the incident.
