MOORHEAD — A Moorhead man was jailed early Thursday, Oct. 10, on suspicion of drunken driving after allegedly fleeing from a Clay County sheriff's deputy who tried to pull him over.
Emergency dispatchers received a call at 3:18 a.m. Thursday about a reckless driver traveling east on 90th Avenue North in Clay County, northeast of Dilworth. The caller reported that the vehicle was swerving and nearly went into a ditch, according to a release from the sheriff's office.
A deputy found the vehicle and tried to stop it, but the driver refused and increased speeds toward U.S. Highway 10 before turning the wrong way on the road. The deputy performed a maneuver to force the vehicle to a stop in a ditch, and 39-year-old Seferino Villarreal Jr. from Moorhead was arrested without incident, the sheriff's office said.
The sheriff's office said speeds of the pursuit reached 85 mph and that there was no other traffic on the road at the time.
Villarreal Jr. was being held at the Clay County Jail on suspicion of fleeing a police officer, third-degree DWI, second-degree test refusal, driving after cancellation as inimical to public safety and open container.
