CLAY COUNTY, Minn. — The Clay County Sheriff's Office called off the pursuit of a stolen vehicle for safety reasons on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 27.
At about 4 p.m., a sheriff's deputy tried to pull over the vehicle on U.S. Highway 10, near 280th Street in rural Clay County. The driver refused to stop, and the deputy began pursuing the vehicle west on Highway 10, according to the sheriff's office.
The vehicle reached speeds of 75 to 80 mph. Several attempts to use spikes to deflate the vehicle's tires were unsuccessful, the sheriff's office said.
Officials ended the pursuit after determining that traffic was too heavy to safely continue the chase. The pursuit ended near Highway 10 and Highway 336.
The sheriff's office is investigating the matter and is working to identify the occupants of the vehicle.
