MOORHEAD — An 18-year-old man is in jail after the Clay County Sheriff's Office says he crashed a stolen vehicle into two unmarked squad cars and ran from officers on foot in south Moorhead on Tuesday afternoon.
A release from the sheriff's office said members of the Metro Area Street Crimes Unit were tracking a stolen vehicle that was involved in a police chase earlier on Feb. 11 when the vehicle entered Moorhead.
Street Crimes waited for the driver of the stolen car to park in the area of the 3500 block of Village Green Drive and once they did, police attempted to block the path of the vehicle to stop it from fleeing the scene, the release says.
When officers approached the stolen vehicle, the driver attempted to flee the area by intentionally ramming into two unmarked squad cars, driven by a Clay County deputy and a Fargo Police Officer. Then the driver fled the area on foot until police were able to track him down and bring him into custody, according to the release.
Nobody was injured in the crash.
The driver was identified as 18-year-old Abdi Ali, of Willmar. He's being held at the Clay County Jail for fleeing police in a car, second- and fourth-degree assault, fleeing on foot and possession of the stolen property.
