MOORHEAD — A Fargo man faces 20 felony charges in Moorhead after a jailhouse call prompted officers to investigate accusations that he created child porn while sexually abusing a young child.
Dillon Rurup, 22, appeared Thursday, March 26, in Clay County District Court on two charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and nine counts each of possessing pornographic work and using a minor in a sexual performance. Court documents filed Wednesday, March 25, state Rurup placed a call on March 9 from the Clay County Jail to tell someone to hide his phone.
Officers said they found eight videos of Rurup sexually assaulting a young girl under the age of 13, a criminal complaint alleged.
The child told officers she chatted with Rurup online and he asked her to send nude photos of herself, court documents said. They exchanged sexually explicit photos with each other, the complaint said.
Rurup then met the victim at a Moorhead house in August, where they had sex, the complaint alleged. During a second incident in mid-February, Rurup allegedly made videos of the sexual abuse and bragged about having sex with the child via Snapchat, according to court documents.
“The defendant further had five still photographs of the victim performing various sexual acts,” the complaint stated.
The person Rurup allegedly asked to hide his phone has not been charged in the case.
Rurup's attorney, Jesse Mickels, declined to comment on this story.
