FARGO — The Fargo Police Department has spoken with a person of interest potentially connected to the spray-painting of a Jesus statue on display in front of a downtown Catholic church.

No arrests have been made in the incident that left the St. Mary’s Cathedral statue’s face painted black on April 17, Fargo police spokeswoman Jessica Schindeldecker told The Forum. Police are not naming the person of interest, as the case remains under investigation, she said.

Video released by the police department shows a hooded individual walk up to the white marble statue shortly before 3:30 a.m. April 17. The person spray-paints the face of the statue before fleeing.

The statue has since been cleaned.
