FARGO — Telephone users across the country have reported being targeted in a scam using Fargo City Hall's phone number, the city said in a press release Thursday, Nov. 18.

According to the release, the main line for city hall — 701-241-1310 — began appearing on phone calls to people across the country on Thursday morning. The calls consisted of a "grandparent scam" in which callers pretend to be a grandchild in need of money to help with a crisis.

The city of Fargo asks anyone receiving a call from this phone number to not call back. Additionally, call recipients are urged to not share any personal information.
