BISMARCK — Bismarck police on Wednesday, March 6, arrested a woman for allegedly embezzling about $8,000 from BNC Bank.

As a routine audit of cash drawers was approaching, Katie Walter, 24, who was a teller at the bank, admitted to the operations manager of the bank that she had taken the money over the past two months to support her heroin habit, according to officer Lynn Wanner. The operations manager then notified police.

Walter reportedly told authorities she was taking money from her cash drawer and altering records so the drawer would appear to balance at the end of the day.

As Walter was being arrested, she admitted to having a "tooter," a device for using heroin, in her bra.

Walter has been charged with one felony count of theft and one misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
