OGEMA, Minn. — The Ramsey County (Minn.) Medical Examiner’s Office has identified three people found dead Monday, March 18, in a home near Ogema in Becker County.
Shane Woods, 9, and Frederick York, 4, who lived in the home, died of "homicidal violence," according to a statement released by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
Their mother, Emma LaRoque, 28, died of suicide due to a gunshot wound, the statement said.
Based on the initial investigation, the case appears to be a murder-suicide, and investigators believe there's no threat to the public, said Jill Oliveira, spokeswoman for the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
The BCA's investigation into the deaths is ongoing.
On Monday afternoon, law enforcement officers responded to a report of a “possible incident” at the rural Ogema home, the BCA said.
The three found dead in the home were a daughter and grandchildren of White Earth Public Safety Director Michael LaRoque, according to Eugene “Umsy” Tibbetts, vice chairman of the White Earth Tribal Council.
Tibbetts said the three lived on the White Earth Indian Reservation.
