MOORHEAD — A Moorhead man appeared in court after police say he allegedly attacked another man with a knife on Tuesday, December 31 in an apartment building in south Moorhead.

According to Clay County Court papers, the incident occurred at 8:59 p.m. at the Sunrise Apartments, 1901 20th St. S., when a 30-year-old man was stabbed once in the arm with a knife.

Court papers say the victim was at his apartment when 44-year-old Ortis Alderman came over and instigated a verbal argument with him. At one point Alderman briefly left and returned with a knife. Alderman then threatened to kill the victim's girlfriend and stabbed the victim in the arm.

Court papers indicate the victim and Alderman are both hearing impaired and cannot speak. Police communicated with the help of an American Sign Language interpreter and written notes.

Alderman is facing four assault charges, including a felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon that caused substantial bodily harm.
