FARGO — Just days after a new survey shows a majority of teachers are afraid of being hurt in their classroom, a paraprofessional is recovering after an attack by a student at a middle school here.
Executive Assistant to the Superintendent and Secretary to the Board of Education AnnMarie Campbell confirmed the attack took place on Monday, April 29.
Campbell also confirmed the school employee required medical attention, but it is not clear the extent of the injuries.
A source close to the situation claimed this student has a history of assaults in Fargo schools.
For that reason, the source also says the student will not be allowed to return to school at Carl Ben Eielson.
School officials have yet to confirm those claims.
The assault comes as the Fargo Education Association debates a contract that includes language about teacher safety.
The association also surveyed more than 800 teachers in Fargo.
7 out of 10 said they were intimidated or fearful while working in their classrooms.
