FARGO — Officials at North Dakota State University have canceled the homecoming week parade that was set for Friday evening, Oct. 11, due to possible snow and high winds.

The parade had been planned for 5:30 p.m. Friday, but NDSU officials began warning earlier this week that the weather could nix the event.

As of Thursday morning, NDSU still planned to hold its homecoming carnival Friday evening starting at 6 p.m., but it will be indoors in the Great Plains Ballroom in the Memorial Union and not outdoors as originally planned.

The family-friendly carnival will include bounce houses and games. Food and coffee will be available throughout the evening.

This year's homecoming parade was moved to a campus neighborhood setting after many years of being held downtown on Broadway.

Matthew Skoy, NDSU's director of student activities, said the homecoming parade was held on Broadway from 1922 until the early 1980s, when it was moved to the campus neighborhood. The parade continued to be held near NDSU until the fall of 2013, when it returned to the downtown venue.
