WEST FARGO — A West Fargo high school administrator will keep his job after driving drunk and crashing his vehicle last month.
Nathan Schleicher will remain in his position as the Sheyenne High School assistant principal, West Fargo Public Schools spokeswoman Heather Leas said Thursday, March 25. The decision comes after the Friday sentencing of Schleicher for driving under the influence.
Schleicher acknowledged being intoxicated when he crashed his vehicle early Feb. 27 near his home in south Fargo. School district documents revealed he had several beers at the Pour House in Fargo. While driving, he looked at his phone, swerved and hit a tree.
He then walked home to seek aid for his injuries, the documents said. Police arrived to investigate the crash and wrote him a citation.
Schleicher was sentenced to 360 days probation.
District leaders ordered Schleicher to develop an accountability plan that included an apology to the Sheyenne High School community.
“Mr. Schleicher and the school district understand the severity of Saturday’s events,” the district previously said in a statement. “We also understand that accountability can best be achieved through intentional restorative practices versus outright dismissal.”
