MOORHEAD — The Moorhead High School Speech and Debate Team has claimed a fifth consecutive Class AA state team championship.
The win came during the State Speech Tournament held Friday and Saturday, April 23-24.
The Spuds had 29 speakers competing in 12 events and brought home a tournament-best 15 medals.
Spud state medalists include: Harrison Trimm (1st Drama); Grace Halvorson (2nd Oratory); Maret Holm (2nd Humor); CeCe Bedore and Jack Nichol (3rd Duo); Scout Holding Eagle-Bushaw (3rd Discussion); Olivia Larson (4th Poetry); Martan Gregoire (5th Great Speeches); Makenzie Stockwell (5th Storytelling); Maya Weiler (5th Oratory); Lily Kjos (6th Drama); Seema Mustafa (6th Extemporaneous Reading); Greta Cole (7th Informative); Anika Drees (7th Humor); Colin Welna (7th Prose); and Leif Carlson (8th Humor).
In addition to the team championship, the Minnesota Speech Coaches Association named Spuds senior captain Thalia Christenson to the 2021 All-State Team.
The Moorhead team is coached by Rebecca Meyer-Larson.
"The tradition of excellence continues at Moorhead High School. We are so proud of these amazing students who worked hard, demonstrated excellence and received distinction at the state level," Meyer-Larson said.
