GRAND FORKS — A program is returning to boost local businesses and student experience.
The Grand Forks Region Economic Development Corporation is teaming up with the University of North Dakota's Center for Innovation to put on an internship program linking UND students to community start-ups.
The EDC says it's a win-win for everyone involved: They help connect the start-ups with interns and college kids get experience in the field.
An employee with the EDC says with the amount of open jobs in the area and no one to fill them, they hope it will help students stick around.
"How can we make sure that our employers, who definitely need a talented workforce are also getting connected with those students while they are in college," said Becca Cruger, with Grand Forks Region Economic Development. "And we know that students who have a local internship are increasingly likely to stay in the area after graduation."
