WATCH: Students trade in sneakers for ice skates in special gym class unit

FARGO — Students at Lincoln Elementary are moving part of their gym class outside for their second grade ice skating

It's the eighth year the class has been doing the unit, and this year gym teacher Ross Olson was able to buy 20 new sets of skates for the class with money from the PTA.

It's a way to get students interested in something they might not normally have access to, he said.

"We have a lot of kids that this is the first time seeing snow for them. The fact that they can skate and try it out and they're just loving it, it's been great," said Olson.

Students will take to the ice two days each week until mid-February, depending on the weather.
